MASS FROM THE CATHEDRAL
NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT for the DIOCESE OF PETERBOROUGH
The Easter season culminates on Pentecost Sunday, May 19th, 2024. Christians have prepared for Pentecost for over 2000 years by joining together for nine days of prayer. This first Novena was instituted when Jesus instructed the Apostles, “And I myself will send upon you what my Father has promised. But you must wait in the city until the power from above comes down upon you.” [Luke 23: 49]. As we prepare for the Solemnity of Pentecost, we invite you to pray this novena for the intentions of the Diocese.
Begin each day by making the Sign of the Cross then recite the following prayer. After this prayer, recite the daily Novena prayer. [VIEW PDF]
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Your love. Pour forth Your Spirit and we shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
STATE OF OUR FINANCIAL AFFAIRS
Once again, we see that our Heavenly Father took care of our parish, together with your generous cooperation. I would like to express my deep appreciation and gratitude to all of you; as well as those who could not come to Mass, dropping off and mailing in your donations. Let us be united in prayer for each other and may God give you health of body and spirit.—Fr. Jozef
2023 IN REVIEW—After the roof was finally fixed, it was noted that there was some interior damage on the south side of the entrance foyer from Rogers Street. Samples of the plaster indicated that it contains asbestos, so some barriers will have to be installed when the repair is made. We also anticipate the repairs to our south-side drainage will be completed this spring. The elevator project is ongoing, but there are encouraging developments on the horizon. We are currently investigating a lift rather than the planned elevator. The footprint of the lift is smaller and we believe we can install it inside the church eliminating the need for outside construction and upgrading of the electrical. We are hoping that the funding currently in place, will be adequate.
You can see in our latest financial statements, that while our 2023 offertory collections were up $13,114 over 2022, our total operating revenue of $261,859 was down $6,841 from 2022. The offertory collections are a concern as they are still down $11,103 from the 2019 level while our costs have certainly risen in that timeframe. Total operating expenses including capital were $282,085 (up $5,385), leaving a deficit of $20,227
